Solid Edge Vs Solidworks – Difference Between Solidworks and Solid Edge

In this article we will discuss major difference between Solidworks and SolidEdge 3d modelling software .

About SolidEdge :

Solid Edge is a 3D CAD, parametric feature (history based) and synchronous technology solid modeling software. It runs on Microsoft Windows and provides solid modeling, assembly modelling and 2D orthographic view functionality for mechanical designers. Through third party applications it has links to many other Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) technologies.

Originally developed and released by Intergraph in 1996 using the ACIS geometric modeling kernel it later changed to using the Parasolid kernel.

Solid Edge is available in either Classic or Premium. The “Premium” package includes all of the features of “Classic” in addition to mechanical and electrical routing software, and powerful engineering simulation capabilities for CAE (Computer Aided Engineering).

The Synchronous Technology in Solid Edge does away with all of that and allows geometry to be created and modified on the fly, without regard for the order in which previous elements were created. SOLIDWORKS is history based, and everything you create using the software is based on (and linked to) everything that came before it. This means that if I want to go back and add a chamfer to an edge that I made a dozen moves previously, and that edge is constrained to other features that were created afterward, then I could potentially lose everything created after that edge. This “feature” in SOLIDWORKS really means that you have to plan your work in advance, and there isn’t much room for improvisation.
SolidEdge was built by Intergraph using ACIS as its kernel, later replaced by Parasolids from Unigraphics after offshoring its previous Engineering Modeling System to India for future maintenanceSolidWorks was built by former PTC employees.
Solidedge is owned by SiemensSolidworks owned by desault systems.
ST2 added support for sheet metal designing, and also recognizing bends, folds and other features of imported sheet metal parts.SolidWorks has very good sheet metal and surfacing capabilities and a well polished workflow for top-down design. It has lots of rendering and simulation partner applications.
Best feature of solidedge is editing the feature is easier. The Direct modeling features allows the user to change model geometry/topology without being hindered by a native model's existing—or an imported model's lack of—parametric and/or history data. Solidworks is very easier to learn that's the reason Solidworks has more customer compared to solidedge.
Solid Edge is available in either Classic or Premium. The "Premium" package includes all of the features of "Classic" in addition to mechanical and electrical routing software, and powerful engineering simulation capabilities for CAE (Computer Aided Engineering)Solidworks available in 3 Packages- SolidWorks Standard , The Professional suite , The Premium suite
SolidEdge Is available For Students .Academic version is freeSolidworks Academic Version is not free .( they offer very Less Charges for student version)
SolidEdge Is Costly Than Solidworks. ............($5,300, $1,200 Maintenance )SolidWorks is Cheaper than SolidEdges ( $3,995, $1,295/yr for optional support)
