SYNOPSIS

Why vertical axis turbine?

Vertical-axis wind turbines (VAWTs) are a type of wind turbine where the main rotor shaft is set transverse to the wind (but not necessarily vertically) while the main components are located at the base of the turbine. This arrangement allows the generator and gearbox to be located close to the ground, facilitating service and repair. VAWTs do not need to be pointed into the wind, which removes the need for wind-sensing and orientation mechanisms. Major drawbacks for the early designs (Savonius, Darrieus and giromill) included the significant torque variation or “ripple” during each revolution, and the large bending moments on the blades. Later designs addressed the torque ripple issue by sweeping the blades helically.

ADVANTAGES OVER HORIZONTAL:

Vertical axis wind turbines have been around for longer than horizontal axis turbines. They are not new or innovative. They are generally a less efficient design and have difficult technical problems to overcome.Horizontal axis turbines are the prominent design because they do not have some of the technical issues that Vertical axis machines to…namely fewer vibrations because as vertical axis machines spin, one blade will pass in front of another for a short period of time creating a difference in torque for a very short time during each rotation. Think of your car running out of alignment for 10-15 years and think of how much damage that will cause to your engine. This will also cause problems for a wind turbine.
WORKING PRINCIPLE
All wind turbines essentially work the same way with minor modifications depending on size and configuration. The wind turns the blades to spin a shaft which connects to a generator which produces electricity. Essentially the rotors harness the kinetic energy of the wind and coverts it into electrical energy.
ADVANTAGES
  1. This Project gives 230 volt output main advantage.
  2. no harm to birds and noice
  3. Accepts wind from any angle.
  4. Better answer to rapidly changing winds.
  5. Components can be mounted at ground level
  6. Ease of service
  7. Lighter weight towers
  8. Virtually silent operation..

DISADVANTAGE
  • Rotors are generally near ground where wind is poorer
  1.  house use
  2. poratable so we can use it on car , bike.
