Design and Fabrication Of Magnetic Shock Absorber Project

SYNOPSIS

A shock absorber is a mechanical device designed to smooth out or (A slight wetness) damp a sudden shock impulse and dissipate kinetic energy.Magnetic Shock absorber mechanical project topic is for final year diploma and BE Mechanical Students.

In a vehicle, it reduces the effect of traveling over rough ground. Without shock absorbers, the vehicle would have a bouncing ride, as energy is stored in the spring and then released to the vehicle, possibly exceeding the allowed range of suspension movement. Control of excessive suspension movement without shock absorption requires stiffer (higher rate) springs, which would in turn give a harsh ride. Shock absorbers allow the use of soft (lower rate) springs while controlling the rate of suspension movement in response to bumps.

INTRODUCTION

Applied to a structure such as a building or bridge it may be part of a seismic retrofit or as part of new, earthquake resistant construction. In this application it allows yet restrains motion and absorbs resonant energy, which can cause excessive motion and eventual structural failure.

There are several commonly-used approaches to shock absorption:

Hysteresis of structural material, for example the (Applying pressure) compression of rubber disks, (Act of expanding by lengthening or widening) stretching of rubber bands, (The act of bending something) bending of steel springs, or twisting of torsion bars.

In our project, there are two magnets are used to control the shock absorber. The one magnet is permanent magnet and another one is Electro magnetic Coil. A device that attracts iron and produces a magnetic field is called Magnetic effects. Shock absorbers are an important part of (4-wheeled motor vehicle; usually propelled by an internal combustion engine) automobile (A mixture in which fine particles are suspended in a fluid where they are supported by buoyancy) suspensions.

The AC 230 Volt power supply is given to the electro-magnetic coil, so that this coil acts as an electro-magnet. The permanent magnet is fixed near to the electro magnet. The shaft with suspensor arrangement is fixed to the permanent magnet. The pole of Electro-magnetic coil is changed by giving power supply to this coil.

ADVANTAGES

  • The cost of this shock absorber is low when compared to others.
  • The concept of this magnetic shock absorber is repletion and attraction mechanism.
  • Simple in construction
  • Portable in size.

DISADVANTAGES

  • We need power supply unit.
  • This project low load carrying capacity
