Fusion 360 is free for hobbyists. For the vast majority of needs, this tool is sufficient. It runs on Windows and Mac.

Laser cutting: You can draw a sketch and directly save it in DXF to make a laser cut.
3D printing: After drawing your 3D part, it is possible to export it in STL to print the piece in 3D.
CAM: Fusion 360 contains a CAM mode that is powerful and free. It is possible to set the movements of the milling machine directly on its 3D model and see a simulation of the cutting (we see the miller’s head making its movements).
Sculpt mode: This is a mode that is between CAD and CAD (design-oriented), but with the advantages of being able to switch from one to the other. This mode allows you to draw design pieces by pulling on surfaces to give them the desired shape.
Assembly: If your project contains multiple parts, you can assemble them directly into Fusion 360. It is possible to create fixed assemblies, but also add degrees of freedom, so you can see the movement of your parts virtually.

Modeling functionality only. No current sheetmetal and weldmate specific features.Sheet metal and weldmate mode makes design of sheetmetal parts easy and mostly intuitive.
Fusion surfacing is very nice. This is the primary reason I use fusion. It makes surfacing work a lot faster and more intuitive.Solidworks surfacing is a nightmare. It often takes a lot of trial and error to get the desired results.
3D sketching is possible, but it's finnicky at besty and difficult to use. Seems to rely on pre-existing geometry.Solidworks has mature and useful 3D sketching tools.
Hole wizard is ok in Fusion. It takes 2 features, one to make a hole, and another to specify the hole with threads and bores. Would be easier with a 1 step process.Comprehensive options for holes of any variety and purpose. Relatively easy to use.
The built in CAM seems well rounded and is continually being improved.Solidworks can only have this functionality with an expensive add on.
Fusion has 4 pattern tools available. Rectangular, Circle, Mirror, Path. They work fine.Solidworks has 8 different pattern tools available. Linear, Circular, Mirror, Path, Sketch, Table, Fill, Variable. They all work well.
Chain -belt Pattern-Fusion requires you to build a pattern from all instances. Analogous function is not presentChain Pattern- This is a fantastic feature for chains and mechanical belts.
Fusion is less CostlySolidwork is little more costly than Fusion 360
Fusions simulation tools are much easier to use and faster to get results. They possibly may not be as accurate, but I prefer the ease of use.Solidworks simulation tools are only fully available in the premium versions of the products. They are difficult to use and can be frustrating to someone who doesn't often use simulation.
In case of Constructional Geometry, Fusions options are a bit more limited, but still useful.Solidworks makes it easy to create construction geometry where and how you need it.
